Wicomico Yacht Club Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Gillis Gilkerson celebrated the Grand Opening and Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Wicomico Yacht Club. Delegate Chris Adams served as the guest speaker at the event. The new building features a new dining area, restrooms, and an indoor bar and modern commercial kitchen. A deck and cantilevered walkway surround the perimeter of the club house. A wheelchair lift was also installed on the outside of the building. The building was elevated six feet to meet code requirements and sit above the flood point.
Club house reconstruction started in August, 2017 after a two-alarm kitchen fire caused extensive damages to the 5,000 square foot facility in December, 2016. The fire, caused by a faulty propane furnace near the kitchen, left the main building of the yacht club in ruins, causing $500,000 in damages. It took 50 firefighters from seven fire companies to get the blaze under control.
