Gillis Gilkerson Starts Renovations to Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore
SALISBURY, MD – October 27, 2017 – Gillis Gilkerson, one of the most stable and trusted Construction Management and General Contracting firms on Delmarva, today announced the start of Phase 1 construction for renovations to the Maryland Food Bank at 28500 Owens Branch Road in Salisbury, Maryland.
“Nearly 45,000 individuals on the Eastern Shore are food insecure and 15,000 of them are children,” said Jennifer Small, Managing director, Maryland Food Bank, Eastern Shore. “This expansion and renovation is essential for the future of the food bank and its mission to meet the needs of the community. It will allow us to more efficiently store and move food and enhance our volunteer experience as we look to grow another 30-50% over the next three to five years.”
“Any time we have an opportunity to make an impact on the quality of life of others, we don’t take it lightly,” said Dwight Miller, president, Gillis Gilkerson. “This renovation and expansion will help our local food bank provide more meals to meet the needs of our community. Our team will deliver a quality product with minimal disruptions to the client’s daily operating flow.”
The project covers 16,316 square feet and is broken up into three phases. Phase 1 is the addition of a new cold storage facility with insulated panels and refrigeration that will be located behind the original Food Bank facility. Phase 2 is an interior office renovation that will reconfigure and enhance the offices with new flooring, ceilings and walls. Phase 3 will include updates to the warehouse including new doors and other miscellaneous repairs.
“Our experience working with Gillis Gilkerson has been great,” added Small. “Between relocating our well, prepping the ground for the addition and assisting in researching our boundary lines, they didn’t waste any time in getting the project moving.”
Gillis Gilkerson project manager Tyler Barnes and superintendent Danny Disharoon are scheduled for completion of Phase 1 by Mid-December, 2017.
