St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church
Ocean City, MD

In 2013, a fire claimed two lives, including that of Reverend David Dingwall, at St. Paul’s By The Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City, Maryland. Gillis Gilkerson was hired to build a +/- 2,300 square foot, two-story addition to replace space lost from the destruction of the rectory.
The addition is equipped with a larger, modernized elevator, additional storage areas, a new ground-level lobby, gathering space at sanctuary level, a meeting and conference room, and a new driveway. An accessible restroom in DeWees Hall, the parish’s community center, was also added during construction. The expansion fills the physical void left behind by the fire and has created a positive presence on Baltimore Avenue, facing downtown Ocean City.
