YMCA of the Chesapeake hired Gillis Gilkerson as construction manager for their three phase, 44,000 square foot renovation project at the Richard A. Henson Family YMCA in Salisbury, Maryland.
Phase I saw major layout changes to the health and wellness center, including the installation of new sports flooring, state-of-the-art internet wired fitness equipment, new restrooms, a basketball center and group cycling and exercise areas. Phase II added a new childcare and youth exercise area in addition to lobby, check-in area and locker room renovations. The final phase added a 13,500 square foot building and 70,000 square foot parking lot.
Gillis Gilkerson also oversaw the installation of a new natatorium which now houses a 3,900 square foot family pool area and 5’ deep swimming pool. The 1,700 square foot entryway to the new building offers a vestibule, lobby and gallery with additional seating and congregation space. During all construction phases, the YMCA was able to remain fully operational for members and the public.
