The Holiday Inn and Suites located on 17th Street in Ocean City, Maryland is a 14-story oceanfront hotel on the
Boardwalk. The massive building features 210 guest suites, each offering a full kitchen and luxury bathroom with
Jacuzzi bathtubs. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, restaurants, a health and fitness center and
game room. Gillis Gilkerson constructed this hotel in three phases, overcoming a number of logistical challenges
along the way.
Prior to commencing Phase I’s vertical construction on the Holiday Inn & Suites, Gillis Gilkerson demolished one of the two former onsite hotels; the other was later demolished as a part of Phase II. The construction team’s ability to deliver on time and within the allotted budget allowed for a seamless transition between Phases I, II and III. In the final phase, Gillis Gilkerson delivered an indoor pool, two restaurants and multiple ocean-view hotel rooms.
Gillis Gilkerson mastered the scope and size of the overall build by relying on decades of experience in coastal construction. The challenges presented by tight lot lines and clearances were overcome and Phase III was completed while the hotel was in full operation.
